360 hands down
All ps3 has going for it is resistance and tbh it falls way short of gears.
If you go for a 360 you got gears of war, lost planet (awesome multiplayer if u go online) and *****down coming up which is spiffy cause its co-op that u can play with your roommate. And to go with your metal gear thing, I HEARD (note the heard, its a rumor) that it might come out for the 360 and is no longer a ps3 exclusive. There is some evidence to support that but dont count on it ;p
Also rockstar announced that Grand Theft Auto IV is no longer a ps3 excluse so how could you say no to that? And to go ontop of that guitar hero is being released on the 360 in march! and you'll be having bioschock for it too (though personally i'd prefer it on pc). Coupling with the 360s online awesomeness it's great. BTW madden 08 comes out in august ;p
The ps3 doesn't have graphics that are THAT much better and tbh the real good games coming out seem to be on ps2 :| Rogue galaxy, God of War II, and Burnout: Dominator. So if you have one of those and the 360 your great specially cause you alrady have the uberness of Wii! The only two games that I think could weight in favor of the ps3 would be motorstorm, which I admit is fun, and Resistance (not to my liking but meh, i'm for keeping fps on pcs ;p)

First off WHO THE HELL SAID NEWER IS BETTER!? I find all the OLDER videogames are much better, newer seems to be shorter, easier, and made by greedy sons of *****es. Its not sleek, it looks like a ****ign printer-scranner-all in one. Black is awesome, but it looks retarded on the ps3. While being much more powerful then the 360 graphics can only get so good before you can tell a difference ;p. And blu-ray doesn't seem like it's gonna beat HD in the long run. I take Gears graphics over any ps3 game, it is ******* gorgeous!
With no great ps3 exclusives to look forward to (except possible metal gear) and Sony's attitude towards gamers and developers you'll be seeing less and less exclusives and more 3rd party support leaving them. Sony really ****** up big time, don't get me wrong I loved the ps2, I still do infact. But they've gotten to damn arrogant and greedy. They've become to confident that they'll have a much better game library and treating developers like crap. They would have gone through with the game-imprinting for each console.
The controller looks and feels like the same ps2 ****, the sixaxis is stupid. The next to know motion control (not to mention it was shamelessly copied off the Wii after e3) is next to non-existant in most of the games. Add in the $500-600 price tag and no rumble?! Forget about its a straight up failure and has been ridiculed since way before launch. To all those somy fanboys saying when it comes out it'll come out big time and stop us from laughing. Your right, it did stop me from laughing, now I just hang my head in disgust when I think about sony.
Being cheaper, with a better game library, hands-down uber online capabilties, a great multiplayer game library, and a very promising incoming lineup. The ps3 should be the one that takes your money, and not only do you get a better system you save $100-200 dollars off to get more games and stuff to go with it!

Edit: oh right and your halo3, but I'm far from a halo fan.... and all the hate isn't meant towards you Imaran your cool it's directed towards Admai Sket and sony (mostly Admai Sket ;p) Heres to hoping you don't get sucked in by that black piece of crap and you have lots of fun on your 360 if u decide to get it!!
